How to update the firmware of Sigmatek XM-380 Pro
Software/Hardware required:
- Nero Burning Rom (provided with your burner) version 6.x
- One firmware for Sigmatek XM-400 ( MTK.bin file) to install ( download one from firmware page)
- 1 recent CDRW not worn (better: 1 CDR)
Description:
Generally speaking, the firmware upgrade allows to increase the capacities of your player to read more audio and video formats, to correct problems of reading or to update the OSD (visual interface of navigation).
The used process is a replacement of the software contained on the flash memory or in certain cases the replacement of a subpart of the existing software even of an update of one or several existing software (called a "patch").
In our case, it is a total replacement of the various integrated software.
Notes:
- This guide is based on the use of Nero version 6.x but Nero 5.x, Easy CDCreator, Toast (for Mac) or any other burning software that can burn using the ISO 9660 mode is enough to complete the task.
- Certain persons do not manage to update their firmware, but in the majority of the cases it is because they did not follow literally this kind of guide.
I thus ask you to read indeed and to read again all the steps before writing me or posting a message in a forum ;o)
There are no reasons to fail the upgrade (except problems with the player)!
If you don't understand my english, then come in forum to get more details!!
Main specifications:
The complete list of improvements, fixes or regressions (it can happen) is available on the download page for each firmware.
Don't forget to read it carefully before upgrading!
Important note for unofficial firmwares:
Don't forget, this site, myself or the "moders" (people updating official firmwares) are not responsible of defect that can happen when upgrading with an unofficial firmware!
If your player is crashed, blocked or anything else that oblige you to send it back to after sale service, then you have to know your garantee will probably be canceled!
So upgrade at your own risk, and in case of doubt, come on in the forum.
Guide:
1st step: burning the firmware on a CDRW (based on Nero 6.x)
- Install "Nero Burning Rom" version 6.x (or any other burning software) if it is not already done
- Download the firmware you want to install
- if you get it from this site you should obtain a ZIP file format: unzip the content to get the real firmware
Important notes:
- the firmware file name MUST BE MTK.bin
- please check the exact BIN file size from the download page
If these 2 conditions are not gathered, then try again to download it or come to ask us in the discussion forum!
- Launch Nero
- Insert the recent (not damaged) CDRW (or CDR) in your burner
Wait for some seconds to let Nero resumes.
- If you get the "Nero Express" mode, then switch to "Nero" mode clicking on "Nero" button!
- In the "New Compilation" pannel:
- top left part, choose "CD" in the drop-down list
- bottom left part, choose "CD-ROM (ISO)" in the icon list
In tabs, choose following options:
"Multisession" tab
- "No Multisession" must be selected
"ISO" tab
- File name length: "Max of 11 = 8 +3 chars (ISO level 1)"
- Format: "Mode 1"
- Character set: "ISO 9660"
- "Joliet": this option should be unchecked
"Label" tab
- Volume label - ISO 9660: "MTK" (without quotes)
"Burn" tab
- "Write" must be checked
- "Finalize CD" MUST BE checked!!
- Write Speed: "please do not select the maximum speed but rather an other less fast if possible"!
- Write Method: "Disk-at-once"
- Click on button "New"
The project wizard closes and main Nero window appears.
- In the right window, choose the file corresponding to firmware (ex: "MTK.bin") and drag&drop it in the window most to the left.
Obviously you have to select and open the good directory "to see" the file before drag&droping it.
- Choose the menu "Recorder\Burn Compilation..."
A new window "Burn compilation" opens.
Please check again in the "Burn" tab if the following options are checked:
- "Write" must be checked
- "Finalize CD" must be checked!!
- Launch burning using the "Burn" button
When the burning is launched, please check the box "Verify written data", to be sure of the date written during this session.
The file is going to be burned on support, please wait until the end of the operation and go to next step.
If an error happens during burning or post checking, then throw your support and try again with a new one!
2ns step: upgrade firmware
VERY IMPORTANT :
- do not switch off the player during upgrade process
- do not upgrade by stormy weather or use uninterruptible power supply
- do all the process WITHOUT the remote control: all can and must be done by the buttons on player itself!
- if the upgrade failed you could be forced to return the player to Sigmatek or your retailer, so be careful!
- Switch on your TV and choose the correct video entry corresponding to your player
- Switch off the player if necessary using the button on facade
- Switch it on and wait for the end of initialization
- Open the tray by the "OPEN/CLOSE" button
The tray is now opened.
- Put your CDR/CDRW burned with firmware and close the tray with "OPEN/CLOSE" button
The player should recognize the firmware on the CD and your TV must display the following message: "Upgrade file detected - Upgrade ? - Press Play To Start"
- Press the "PLAY" button on player and watch the messages displayed on TV screen
- a first message notices "FILE COPYING" during 2 secondes
- a second message notices "UPGRADING" much longer
- After the second message, the tray open itself, remove the CD from tray right now! and DO NOT TOUCH the tray anymore! (don't close it).
During this time the upgrade is continuing internally during about 1 minute.
The message "UPGRADING" stay displayed on TV during this period.
- The upgrade stops automatically by closing the tray and the player is reinitialized.
The screen shows the same thing as you just switched on your player.
- Please go to the setup to choose all yours parameters. All of them have been reset during upgrade.
CONGRATULATIONS, you have probably upgraded your player successfully!
Have a good upgrade
